In February 2019, the roof of the Lester B. Pearson Civic Centre partially collapsed destroying much of the 360-seat performing arts theatre, the Nuclear and Mining Museum and several art studio spaces. The Civic Centre was the arts and culture hub of the community since the mid 1990s.

But, Elliot Lake is no stranger to adversity. Staff and volunteers mobilized resources in response to the collapse and have rebounded in several areas. Various art and culture spaces have relocated, while planning is ongoing for a temporary home for the archives and museum space.

The W.H. Collins Hall has been repurposed and now offers an enhanced performance space to accommodate concerts and other performing arts.  The enhanced performance space includes new LED lighting system, new sound system, acoustic curtains surrounding the entire hall and new seating.

We are working on plans to repair or rebuild the civic centre. Check back here for updates as our plans continue to take shape.
