Miners' Memorial Park is the home of the Elliot Lake Mining Monument and the Miners' Memorial and is located on the shores of Horne Lake. The park is dedicated to the area's heritage and history of miners who often risked their lives every day to support the community and their families. There is parking and picnic tables available off of Highway 108 in Elliot Lake.

Mining Monument

The monument offers information on the history of mining in Elliot Lake by celebrating the families who transformed a rural community into the Uranium Capital of the World.

Miners' Memorial

The Miners' Memorial is engraved with the names of workers from Elliot Lake mines who have died from workplace accidents or occupational illnesses.

Commemorative bricks are available to purchase for anyone who wishes to enshrine their loved ones' name as an eternal feature of the Miners' Memorial. Bricks are engraved with the worker's name and placed in the park. To get information on purchasing a commemorative brick call Darla Hennessey at 705-849-6373 or complete the Memorial Brick Application Form

Heritage Trail

Next to the park is the Horne Lake Heritage Trail and Island Boardwalk Trail. The Boardwalk trail winds through a cattail marsh, pretty lake views and the Matinenda Escarpment where lookout areas offer scenic photo opportunities.

Museum and History

Elliot Lake Nuclear and Mining Museum traces the history of the area from the early trapping to logging, through the full circle of its Uranium mining industry, from its origins to its state-of-the-art closure. The museum is currently closed, however a satellite location is open at the Ranger's Heritage Centre during July and August.
